10am - The united players arrive at Carrington. Some
players share lifts to the training ground but most drive their own cars. When they arrive they get changed in the dressing
room where they have their own locker. Albert the kit man makes sure each player has a clean nike training kit to wear for
the session.
10.30 - training begins. The players run out onto the
training pitch where Sir Alex Ferguson is waiting with his coach Mike Phelan.
10.35 - Training starts with a warm up. This is important
because the players muscles need to be warm before they can start. The warm up starts with some stretching exercises and a
gentle jog. This can last up to 30 mins.
11am - the coaches need to make sure that the players
work on keeping their shrap reactions and at speed work. this involves 100 metres running and increasing their pace
every 25 metres. the players then concentrate on their ball work. examples of this are small 5 a side games or posession games
(the objective to keep posession of the ball). meanwhile the goalkeeping coach Tony Coton works with the goal keepers on their
catching, their reflexes and other aspects of the game. the goalkeepers then join the squad and form 2 different teams and
play a short match. afterwards Mike takes them for a warm down.
12.30: the training session has ended, some players choose
to continue practising penalties or free-kicks or their shooting. Other players go to the gymnasium to do strength work whilst
others relax in the swimming pool or jacuzzi. injured players report to the physiotherapist.
1pm - after showering and changing out of their kit the
players go down to the staff canteen to eat. there is a wide variety of food, all prepared by chefs who have been instructed
by the clubs dietitian. these meals are low in fat and provide the necessary carbohydrate diet needed by professional sportsmen.
1.30 - players with media engagements report to the main
reception where journalists are waiting to interview them.
2pm - during pre-season training another session would
take place now. the players return to their cars and maybe sign autographs for fans waiting. the rest of the day is about
getting plenty of rests, an important part of their routine says alex ferguson.
